Interview: Getting to know Jiordy

Australian pop-electronic musician Jiordy has recently released her new single, Vigor. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… a Nonna at heart, a true home body. I love being outdoors, somewhere green or by an ocean or river but also can’t help but feel most inspired and comfy when I’m in my own space.

Vigor is… a song about life force and energy, the kind that takes you to a deeper level. At various key points in my life I remember what it felt like ‘unlocking’ that higher potential or being that kind of a person and it’s one of those fleeting, life-altering experiences that stays with you. That’s what I tried to encapsulate into this song.

Home is… sourdough, butter and fig jam or an almond croissant and a chai latte on a Sunday morning in bed. Me and my partner’s dog Bentley sits patiently waiting to eat the crumbs and it’s become a bit of a routine for the little guy. Home is also my big Italian family, having them over to eat, argue and laugh. They’re crazy and overpowering but they make me feel infinitely loved.

I spend too much time… thinking about things that don’t exist. That sounds bigger than it is, but I tend to focus on my future and what I want – a lot. I’m always trying to find ways to stay present which is why music is the answer to all my life’s questions. It’s one of the only things that connects me – truly – to what I’m doing right now.

I’ve never… liked waterslides. Ah the thought of them gives me the heebie-jeebies! I love roller coasters, they’re fun, but waterslides are trash, pure evil! I don’t have much more to add… I just don’t like them.

The last 12 months have been… unfamiliar. Not only were we all dealing with this really bizarre pandemic but in my personal world, I started releasing my own music. It’s kind of scary and liberating and exciting and stirring all at the same time. The last year has been the weirdest but best year of my life.

It might surprise people to learn that… I’m really good at limbo! I don’t know why or how I got this incredibly useless gift but I get to pull it out one in a blue moon at a party and it makes me feel like I am the bendy queen master.
