Getting to Know Baby Velvet

Baby Velvet is the new moniker of Hannah Crofts from All Our Exes Live In Texas. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… just completing my morning ritual, coffee, walk, yoga, boiled eggs with hot sauce, housemate chats, clean room, shower, brush teeth, sit down, open laptop and then email my days away.

Call Me is… my very first solo song, how exciting is that?! It’s a momentous occasion for me, the first song off my debut solo album, the first thing I’ve ever fully done by myself, writing, working with my producer Kevin Ratterman, playing guitar… the whole album has a theme of learning to live and deal with anxiety, relationships, learning to put yourself first while still trying to be as kind as you can be.

Home is… my bedroom is my absolute sanctuary. I have the smallest room in my share house but it has two windows and the bestttttt light. In this tiny room every inch is covered, paintings by my favourite artists (Georgia Spain / Luke Sciberras / Libby Haines), framed photos of my loved ones, trinkets collected from around the world, cowgal hats. I then have an insane clothes rack that looks like a drag queen lives here… feathers, colours, vintage onesies from Amsterdam… my little home recording set up and my two guitars… and then as many pot plants as I can fit. When I shut my door, this is my home, the home I created with my friends, with all of my art and passions – I’m obsessed.

I spend too much time… living inside other people’s heads. It’s been something I have been working on a lot lately, ‘it is none of your business what happens inside someone else’s mind’, and its bloody true!

I’ve never… said I wouldn’t do something just for the story.

The last 18 months have been… a fucking bin fire.

It might surprise people to learn that… I only have one working kidney, the other one is there but it mostly just hangs out.
