Our top ten tunes of the fortnight – April 14
These are the songs that have been on constant rotation in our office over the past couple of weeks:
1. JOY. – Think About It
The Sydney artist explains that the single is about “forming a decision about a situation or difficult relationship. It’s a reflection of a dynamic connection with someone and trying to hold onto whatever is left. The aim of not giving up on it, all the while knowing you’ve been willingly blind to the fact things are broken.”
2. Barkaa – Fight For Me ft. Electric Fields
The rapper and Malyangapa, Barkindji woman has shared her newest single, as a surprise accompanying track to her debut EP, Blak Matriarchy.
3. Let’s Eat Grandma – Levitation
This new album lands ahead of the release of the new album Two Ribbons, which is out on April 29th.
4. Driftwood. Ft LVNDVN – 3AM
The Sydney artist has returned with a molten new single which features R&B maverick
LVNDVN.
5. Semantics – Get In The Car
The Meanjin/Brissy punks have announced their debut album, Paint Me Blue, set for release on May 20th via their new home SideOneDummy / Cooking Vinyl Australia.
6. mxmtoon – sad disco
The artist, currently based in Brooklyn, will drop her new album rising on May 20th. She is set to play her first ever Australian tour, playing all ages venues in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney!
7. Maggie Rogers – That’s Where I Am
This is the first single from the artist’s forthcoming second album, Surrender, which is out in July.
8. Maddy Storm – Last Resort
Maddy says, “I wanted to highlight the importance of putting yourself first, making note of the realisation that it isn’t selfish to spend time on yourself and put your own well-being and healing as a priority.”
9. Baby Velvet – What The Hell Is Wrong With Me
The Melbourne artist has announced a run of shows to celebrate the release of her debut album Please Don’t Be In Love With Someone Else, out May 27th.
10. Tim Wheatley – Shiny Tacoma
The Aussie troubadour has dropped a sun-soaked ode to being challenged, to looking back on rough times and finally being able to laugh.
