Getting to Know Jacob Fitzgerald
Naarm/Melbourne-based indie-rock artist Jacob Fitzgerald has recently dropped his new single, Muse, we asked him to tell us about himself:
I am… Jacob Fitzgerald. A Pop/Rock artist hailing from Melbourne, the front man of a five-piece band and all round songwriter and performer.
‘Muse’ is… a nostalgic, high energy, and extremely catchy tune that has a modern-70s flavour. It was written about a girl I don’t even know and was originally an ode to my source of songwriting inspiration. However, it’s now progressed to a song about abandoning fear and being prepared to risk it all for someone. Heartbreak aside. The band and I wanted to make ‘Muse’ fun and easy to sing along to, so we made sure the track was filled with a big hooky chorus, big guitars and pure vibe.
Home is… Everything to me. Not defined by a place but the more people I’m with. I feel so loved by the company I keep and am so grateful for the impact they’ve had on me. It’s a simple feeling and one of safety. From eating a home cooked meal with the family, to touring with the band or even walking with a mate. There are a million times I feel at home, and it means the world. It’s become more than a place now.
I spend too much time… overthinking. I often over analyse myself and criticise too hard. The worst part? I’m painfully self-aware and know that I’m doing this. Yet, it has always been something I struggle to drop and shake the feeling of. Letting go and escaping my head is hard, but I guess makes for good writing!
I’ve never… seen myself doing anything other than music. Growing up I was often asked what my “backup plan” was. It used to leave me questioning if I should have one, but I honestly have never felt I needed one. I’m so in love with my craft, the life I get to live and the dream I’m chasing. It might change, but I know wherever I end up, music will follow.
It might surprise people to learn that… I am a victim of white line fever. Growing up playing basketball, I found I was SUPER FRICKEN competitive. Often for better, but sometimes for worse. Luckily, I’m now an adult and acknowledge I’m not destined for the NBA so can appreciate the game for what it is… fun!
