Interview: Getting to know AYA J

Gumbaynggirr/Coffs Harbour and Yugambeh/Gold Coast-based electronic-dance duo AYA J have dropped their new single, Be Your Lover. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

I am… Angus from AYA J.

Be Your Lover is… our latest single written about wanting someone to give you all their love and feel at home such that they reveal themselves to you entirely.

Home is… Coffs Harbour (for Angus) & Gold Coast (for Sam).

I spend too much time… sitting in my head and thinking about random things like why does the toilet flush different ways in different hemispheres.

I’ve never… been out of the country. I had a grand plan of leaving right before COVID, but my plans were suddenly disrupted unfortunately like millions of other people around the world.

It might surprise people to learn that… I write with my right hand, kick with my right foot. But surf with my left foot back and play pool with my left hand. And I am a blackbelt at Karate.
