Getting to know The Maggie Pills
Naarm/Melbourne-based punk/rock band The Maggie Pills have just shared their new single. We asked them to tell us about themselves:
We are… a Melbourne-based six-piece who hails from Argentina, Venezuela and Australia. We love playing live and loud, and our creative practice is opposed to the abuse of power, nepotism, bullying, injustice and prejudice. We’re also all about channelling kindness, friendship, and community.
‘GOLD’ is… a recognition of the value that each of us can bring about and how this talent is often overshadowed by the more conventional creators. Many won’t recognise our talent because we don’t have the qualities that the wider society considers ‘good’ and help them feel comfortable.
The song invites us to dance frantically and to let our beautiful chaos come out without impositions or conditions. Being different and true to ourselves can be painful and isolating, but we believe that it is the most valuable thing we can give out to the world. WE ARE GOLD.
Home is… where your band is. For us, that’s Melbourne’s Northern suburbs!
We spend too much time… at A1 bakery.
We’ve never… played a show in Japan. Wink Wink 😉
It might surprise people to learn that… our namesake is pure homage to a tiny Chihuahua named Maggie. We love you, Maggie!
