Yugambeh/Gold Coast-based artist TRILLA has just released her new single ‘Slipstream’. We asked her to tell us about herself:
I am TRILLA. Natural born musician. Mostly self-taught. I believe in LOVE above all else. I am a warrior of the heart. I still believe that music is the greatest healer on the planet, and I am thrilled to be a part of that medicine for the people.
‘Slipstream’ is my latest single, and it’s a banger! Filled with energy and aliveness. It’s an anthem for living a big life and being in the flow state. It’s filled with a lot of heart and audacity. It’s also a love song saying, –“Come with me, I want to create this big life with you, let’s blaze a trail together and live the life of our dreams”. It’s also an owning of the part of me that wants big fame. I used to be afraid of it changing me, and now I am clear that my heart is big enough, that I am deeply in tune with my needs and boundaries, and that I am ready for it all. It’s a spell-casting song, and it is deeply anchored in the knowing that pleasure is in the little things, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the big things that may seem “superficial”. There can be pleasure in all of it.
Home is when I am on stage, in the present moment, singing my lungs out and sharing my heart with everyone. I live in the Gold Coast Hinterland immersed in the trees and streams, where I recharge myself to be a member of this world. I live with my partner Tani, her son and our dog. My band members live here too. There are three dwellings, and we have a pretty sweet set-up. I feel most at home when I am going at the pace of my heart.
I spend too much time opening all the tabs and trying to do everything all at once. My word of the year is FOCUS. Wherever I put my attention and energy, I get more of that. Exhibit A: during the process of answering these questions, I meandered off and painted a kitchen window sill and a white picket fence.
I’ve never been in love with a man. I guess that’s the crux of why I identify as queer.
It might surprise people to learn that I wanted to be a Mighty Duck. As a kid, I was obsessed with rollerblading and playing roller hockey in my driveway.
