Getting to know Jessica Fortuin

Eora/Sydney-based Maori pop artist Jessica Fortuin has just released her new single, Razor Heart. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… Jessica Fortuin, a queer, Maori, singer songwriter from Sydney who is tryna get deep while having a good time in the format of pop colourful music.

2025 has so far been… jam-packed with the release of my song ‘The Devil’ and ‘Razor Heart’, I can’t imagine a better way to make the most of this year than with songs that I am so incredibly proud of. Planning gigs and sharing that journey on my socials so I can have a little memory booklet to look back on. I can’t wait for what else is in store for the end of 2025!

Home is… wherever instruments are. Floating all over the country trying to find where I fit in and I only ever felt like I could unwind when I could play piano or guitar and write. I know I feel safe somewhere when I can write a song.

I spend too much time… on my phone, but that’s where all the cool stuff is! Genuinely considering changing my phone to black and white cos I heard it helps you to stop using it as much.

I’ve never… been this confident before, I feel like I could move a building with my mind for real. Honestly though, hearing ‘If you can’t defeat the fear, then do it afraid’ changed my brain permanently. I don’t have to be in the perfect mindset anymore to get something done, I just have to do it.

Keep up to date with Jessica on Insta.
