Getting to know Gordi – Music interview

Sydney-based singer/songwriter Gordi, aka Sophie Peyton, recently dropped her latest single “Nothing’s As It Seems,” so we thought we’d find out a bit more about her. He she is, in her own words:

I am Gordi. That’s not actually my real name, it’s a family nickname. Unfortunately around the time I started playing music under this alias, Gotye, Lorde and Birdy were all emerging on the music scene. I swear it was a coincidence.

“Nothing’s As It Seems” is my new single. The title is quite self-explanatory.

Sydney is where I live most of the time. Apart from the occasional weather phenomenon where you feel like you’re stuck in a hair dryer, I think it’s a pretty top place.

I spend too much time thinking of ways to make money. Apparently there’s this app you can get on your phone where you can sign up to mow someones lawn or set up their wifi connection for a few extra bucks. There was one where all someone wanted was for their pot plant to be moved. I think with the way streaming of music is headed this could be a viable financial alternative for many musos out there.

I’m currently listening to myself. It’s so embarrassing being caught listening to your own music. Imagine if you saw JK Rowling reading Harry Potter on the bus. Fortunately for me I am not remotely famous or richer than the Queen so I listen to my own songs quite regularly on the bus.

In the future, I hope life isn’t like it is in The Hunger Games. I just watched that movie for the first time. It’s seriously screwed up. And the main character’s name is Catness. But her nickname is Catnip. So I guess if she were me, she would play music under the name Catnip.

It might surprise people to learn that I know all the words to ‘Cleaning out my Closet’ by Eminem.

Keep up to date with Gordi at her Facebook Page.
