Getting to know Bench Press
Exciting young Melbourne post-punk lads Bench Press have just dropped their new album. We asked them to tell us about themselves:
We are Jack, Lewis, Jordan and Morgan. Aka, Bench Press!
Our debut album is out now and we couldn’t be more stoked with how it all turned out. We initially intended to sit down and record an EP over two days but next thing you know we recorded ten songs in the same amount of time and hey presto, we have an album!
Our upcoming live shows will be loud, aggressive and sweaty! We are also getting the chance to support some incredible acts such as Batpiss in Ballarat and Melbourne as well as shows like the Poison City Weekender (w/ Clowns, Wet Lips, The Pink Tiles + tonnes more) and Sunifest 3 (w/ Cable Ties, Gabriela Cohen and Peter Bibby + tonnes more). Our next big headline show is our album launch on Sept 23 at the Old Bar! It’s gonna be good fun!
We spend too much time knocking about bars before soundcheck – seems like we always get to shows a bit too early and end up waiting around not doing much at all!
We’ve never released an album before this one, toured as a band and tonnes of other shit. All of that sort of stuff is in the works for the coming months though – exciting!
Home is The Old Bar without a doubt. Perhaps one of the greatest pubs in all of the land and also the place where we played our first, second and perhaps third show. It will also be the place at which we launch our debut album on September 23! Joining us will be Horace Bones, Plyers and Local Coward.
It might surprise people to learn that we do a really bloody great cover of Hot in the City by Billy Idol. Ask us nicely and we may rip it out again…
In the future we plan on hitting the road and doing tours across Australia, NZ and Europe. There will also be a whole bunch of Melbourne shows (obviously)!
