Our top ten tunes of the week – November 15
Here are the songs that have been lighting our fireworks over the past few days:
1. Julia Jacklin – Head Alone
This track comes from Julia’s new album, Crushing, due out Fri 22 Feb. She’ll be touring the east coast of Australia in March. It’s good to have her back.
2. Washington – Claws
The clip was directed by acclaimed film director Nick Waterman and Washington herself. “The video is an exercise in exploring how “sexy” doesn’t have to be overtly provocative,” says Washington of the clip.
3. Body Type – Teeth
Directed and animated by Nicholas Griffith and Rikki Clark, the video plays homage to 90’s cartoons with a “trip” down to the dentist.
4. The Vaccines – All My Friends Are Falling In Love
The band recently announced details of their 2019 Australian tour where they will be performing at Falls Festival followed by sideshows at Oxfords Art Factory, Sydney and The Croxton Bandroom, Melbourne.
5. Fiction Writer – Never Going To Let You Down
Gideon Bensen, the mastermind of new outfit Fiction Writer, says: “Never Going To Let You Down was the first song I wrote after parting ways with my record label. The song came quite easily as the chorus hook came first, and the rest followed. The song really is about staying true to yourself and your creative vision, even though some may not understand it. You need to pursue things, as you see them.”
6. No Mono – Fever Highs
Made in collaboration with Jeff Anderson Jnr. and produced by Kira Bayfield, the video offers us dream-states, lost lovers and a twist for the band both in sonic and visual direction.
7. Hamster – Heavyweight
The LA-based producer is back with a new pop-inspired piece – “Heavyweight” ft. Alma Cook.
8. Theia – Candy
Fresh from dropping her new single Candy, New Zealander Theia (real name Em Haley-Walker) reveals the brand new video to accompany it.
9. Ruby Gill – Your Mum
Check our interview with Ruby here: https://somethingyousaid.com/2018/11/13/getting-to-know-ruby-gill/.
10. Lisa Caruso – Shake Baby Shake
Forced breaks from relapse in sickness, prolific writing, and to London and back again, Lisa Caruso has been relentless in her work toward the completion of a new set of songs that reflect the pause in time since her last releases took off.
