Our top ten tunes of the week – February 1
Check out the tunes that have been lighting our fireworks over the past seven days:
1. Julia Jacklin – Pressure To Party
This video (directed by Julia and Nick Mckk) features Julia and her siblings, plus a guest appearance from Body Type. Julia’s new album is out soon and we can’t wait.
2. Stella Donnelly – Lunch
This is taken from Stella’s debut album, Beware Of The Dogs, due out 8th March. “This is my favourite song on the record,” she says. “I wrote this about the feeling of displacement I get when I go on tour and come back and nothing feels the same. There’s a disconnect there.”
3. Ängie – IDGAF
The Swedish provocateur has returned with her brand new single, the first taste of new music following the release of her acclaimed debut album last year.
4. FUR – Him And Her
The Brighton-based quartet have dropped their ace new single.
5. Nic Cester – Who you think you are (Sur La Seine remix)
Nic says; “I wanted to have one song that was musically as far removed from Jet as I could get – and this is where I arrived. It’s a mixture of dance with a little bit of disco/RNB, although the chorus is quite lush. Stylistically it’s a mix of ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s in terms of instrumentation and technologies.”
6. FIDLAR – Can’t You See
This comes from the band’s new album, Almost Free.
7. Interpol – Fine Mess
Following their successful Australian tour, Interpol have released a new single. Check it.
8. upsidedownhead – Future Loser (feat. E^ST)
This animated video, from the mind of Sadland Studio’s Thom Rawle, follows a character that has been depicted from the lyrics of the track, showcased in a futuristic cityscape.
9. Lola Scott – Warzone of the Suburbs
“I wrote it in the garage of a sketchy neighbourhood I used to live in. Inspired by my neighbours fighting (they fought a lot) ‘Warzone of the Suburbs’ is a call for them to break the silence’ & realise that their relationship is unhealthy.” says Scott.
10. Pastis – Around Here
Pastis are an emerging five-piece from Helsinki, taking influence from genres such as Britpop/rock, merseybeat and modern indie-rock.
