Getting to know The Empty Threats

Psychedelic four-piece from Adelaide, The Empty Threats have just released their new EP, Ablutions. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… Stuart, Matt, Michael and Lenny, a four-piece psych rock band out of Adelaide. We have a clarinet and we know how to use it.

Ablutions is… about the change that we’ve had as a band over the past year. There are a lot of different elements and moods that come and go throughout the EP and I guess that’s sort of the manifestation of the different moods we have been in.

Our upcoming live shows will be… noisey and enthusiastic. Our singer/clarinettist likes to get pretty rowdy on stage, we like to call that enthusiasm.

Home is… little old Adelaide, as much as we love the busyness of Melbourne when we get the chance to play there, it’s always nice to come back home and enjoy some peace and quiet. It’s pretty easy to get around too, which makes it easier for us to catch up for a jam week-to-week.

We spend too much time… over analysing our music, when we get the chance to sit down and write we often find ourselves stuck on one chord progression or one moment in a song. It normally means that we get a bit bored of a song before we’ve had a chance to play it live. A few of our stronger songs have come from just spitting out a bunch of chords or a melody and just running with it.

It might surprise people to learn that… None of us eat meat. We’re all either vegetarian or vegan, we tend to enjoy a greasy pre-gig feed at our local, Lord of the Fries.
