Our top ten tunes of the week – May 2
These are the songs that have been lighting our fireworks over the past seven days:
1. Kate Tempest – Firesmoke
The acclaimed recording artist, poet, novelist and playwright has announced her highly anticipated new album The Book Of Traps And Lessons, out June 14th via Fiction Records / Caroline Australia. Here’s a new track, to give you a taste.
2. Tuva Finserås – I Could Be Your Angel
The Norwegian-born, Melbourne based artist is back with a new single. “It is a song about not being able to completely let go of a person you have been in a relationship with. You’re living inside a strangely vivid dream driven by wishful thinking, but ever so often you are getting sucked out of it, disappointed with the new reality. In the dream, the person is telling you
exactly what you want to hear, but is always just out of reach,” Tuva explains.
3. Touch Sensitive – Unconditional
The video comprises of VHS recordings between a news bulletin featuring the man himself and guest vocalist Chloe Chaidez (Kitten, Nasty Cherry), and a montage of retro dance and club scenes.
4. World Champion – Nevermind
World Champion have returned with their new single, out via Future Classic, alongside a video directed by cartoon commentator, Struthless.
5. G Flip – I Am Not Afraid
Here’s the new one from the prolific, Melbourne-based singer, drummer, producer and multi-talented performer.
6. Fiction Writer – Shooting Up My Spine
Frontman Gideon Bensen co-produced this with Wade Keighran (Polish Club/Wolf & Cub). The accompanying video was directed, produced and edited by James Adams (BAD DREEMS/ Monster Children) and stars Gideon himself.
7. Cautious Clay – Reasons

8. Alice Ivy – Close to You featuring Flint Eastwood
The clip follows Alice and her dog Lexie on a fun-packed adventure across their hometown of Geelong – including walkies, ice cream and saying hello to other doggos… aka the best day ever.
9. Alpine – Dumb
Hooray! Melbourne outfit Alpine are back! Here’s their new single.
10. Robbie Miller – Show Your Skin
The Brisbane singer-songwriter has previously toured with the likes of Josh Pyke and Dustin Tebbutt, and won the Unearthed NIMA for best new Indigenous talent a couple years back.
