Getting to know Bruise Pristine

Sydney alternative rock band Bruise Pristine have recently released their latest single. We asked Kate from the band to tell us more:

We are… perpetually tired and have a penchant for spikes and cats. We are currently booking flights and hustling like crazy in lead up to our Tired Eyes single tour. It’s a very busy and exciting time!

Tired Eyes is… about having lots of ideas and ambitions and too little time to see them through. It’s about inaction born from circumstances out of your control. It’s about potential and perpetual frustration. The inspiration for Tired Eyes grew from the want of creating art and honing your craft, but being stifled by the rigidity of working 9-5, and the mental and physical exhaustion that can be debilitating and isolating.

Our upcoming tour will be… fun, loud and full of fuzz. It will be our first foray to Brisbane and Melbourne so we’re pretty excited. We’re going to be playing with some old friends and hopefully making some new ones, so we can’t wait.

Home is… for a long time, I struggled over what home means. Growing up in a country town as a first-generation Australian of cross-cultural British and Sri Lankan descent, I never really felt like I belonged anywhere. I’ve grown to learn that it’s where you are supported, accepted and empowered. Home is currently my endearingly shitty house in Sydney’s Inner West that I rent and live with my partner and our cat. It’s also my hometown of Kempsey on the NSW Mid North Coast that resides on Dunghutti land.

We spend too much time… talking about gender politics at rehearsals. It just happens by default when you’re a femme queer identify-ing band. We rant a lot about our experiences and frustrations, but it’s all very healthy and supportive. I also spend way too much time on social media down wormholes looking at guitar pedal and FX.

It might surprise people to learn that… we’ve supported Harry Howard and the NDE (Rowland S. Howard’s brother), whose line-up included some Australian music legends Dave Graney and Clare Moore. They are hands down some of the most incredible and kind musicians we’ve played with.

As a guitar band, it also may come as a surprise that we released a remix of one of our previous singles, Not Like You. It’s a bit of a dark club banger that was remixed by my long time collaborator and friend B38TN1K.

In the future… we’re going to work on releasing our second EP and maintain the rage against shite politicians.
