Our top ten tunes of the week – February 20
These are the ten songs that have been getting us going over the past seven days:
1. Stella Donnelly – Love is in the Air
One of our absolute faves, Stella Donnelly, has covered the John Paul Young classic, and it’s an utter dream.
2. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever – Cars In Space
This is the first taste of new music from the Melbourne outfit since their 2018 debut album, Hope Downs. It was premiered by Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music.
3. Chef’Special – Trouble
This new track from the Netherlands band is from their forthcoming album, Unfold, out March 6th.
4. Hannah Grace – Blue
Last week, Hannah performed at the revered Richard Quinn London Fashion Week show, where she opened and closed the evening. She’s great!
5. Supermilk – Agony Anne
Supermilk is the recording project of former Doe drummer Jake Popyura, and this new single is taken from the project’s upcoming debut LP, Death Is the Best Thing for You Now.
6. Anna Calvi – Eden (feat. Charlotte Gainsbourg)
Calvi says about the song: “Charlotte Gainsbourg has taught me so much as a singer, in how the most quiet of utterances can be the most dramatic and powerful of all. When I was writing Eden I had Charlotte’s voice in my head – there’s a secrecy and quiet power to this song that always made me think of her. It’s a dream come true to have collaborated with her.”
7. Butterfingers – Dancing (To The Beat Of My Own Drum)
The guys will be celebrating their upcoming full length studio album, Bad News, with an 18 date Australia-wide tour.
8. Grasshole – Wildfire
Here is the title track from the forthcoming second album by the Melbourne based stoner-punk band.
9. OLI – Happy
The 23 year old Londoner has entered the stage with an ode to the unhappy, and an acknowledgement of the helplessness of those around them.
10. Bloods – U & M E
This new track features a guest vocal from Seattle icons TAD and was recorded in Seattle at Jack Endino’s Sound House studio (Nirvana) using the amp used by Kurt Cobain on his band’s debut album.
