Getting to Know Black Rabbit George

Gold Coast-based artist Black Rabbit George has just dropped a new single. We asked him to tell us about himself:

I am… Black Rabbit George. Think Folk mixed with French country sides and Psychedelic Creme Fraiche.

Fingers Radio is… the first single off my upcoming album, Warren. The result of endless days dreaming in the studio.

Home is… until recently, a backstage couch. A friend’s fold-out bed, a cheap hotel room and a van. Now it’s a little house in Maleny and a tiny backyard studio. Its good, this feeling settled thing.

I spend too much time… wondering what ex-girlfriends are up to, looking for lost keys, playing guitar, drinking beer, thinking about cleaning the house, thinking how much I miss cigarettes, wondering what’s in the fridge, watching news I hate on YouTube, checking my phone.

I’ve never… had too much of a clue. My high school teacher wrote ‘A fog at the best of times’ on the back of my jersey as a farewell quote. If I wasn’t this vague, I possibly would have been offended. I’ve turned daydreaming into a lifelong art. Whatever Buddhists teach about being present, I’ve managed to conquer distant.

It might surprise people to learn that… mantis shrimp have 16 colour receptors; a human has three. Also, they have a hammer like claw that can punch with as much force as a 22-calibre rifle. Apparently, scientists found it hard to keep them at first because they would smash the glass aquariums. Pretty amazing considering they are only a few centimetres long.
