Interview: Getting to know Meghna

Melbourne-based artist Meghna has just revealed her new single ‘Bad Thoughts’. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… Meghna, it actually has a dope meaning behind it, if I say so myself haha. It means ‘the queen of clouds’, or ‘the one who walks on clouds’ in Sanskrit.

Bad Thoughts is… about wanting to win/succeed at all costs, even if the things you do to get to the top are not considered ‘nice-to-do’. It really touches on the idea of competition against others, and the jealousy one can feel inside when they see someone else doing well. I wrote it based on what I felt but also what many other people my age may feel during the pursuit of success, constantly comparing their worth to others.

Home is… wherever the fam is ☺

I spend too much time… worrying about literally everything and being a perfectionist. When it comes to important decisions, it’ll take me AGES to come to a conclusion because I’m thinking of the different options in the multiverse that could become reality if I make one decision (shoutout to the darkest timeline episode on ‘Community’- I think that really fed into my paranoia haha).

I’ve never… not been optimistic. I know it sort of feels a bit like a humble brag, but honestly I always try to see the good side of things even if it’s an absolute dumpster fire. My goal is to continue being ridiculously optimistic. My family call me ‘the sunshiny girl’.

It might surprise people to learn that… I also do stand-up comedy and have worked with some amazing people like Sammy J, Matt Okine, Aunty Donna, Sam Simmons and the crew at The Channel!

Keep up to date with Meghna on Facebook.
