Our top ten tunes of the week – November 12
These are the songs that have been on high rotation in our office over the past seven days:
1. Eves Karydas – Get Me So High
This new single is about being hooked on a relationship despite the turmoil it may bring and Eve has teamed up with an all-female songwriting and production team for it, working with pals Madelene Eliasson (Zara Larsson, Emily Burns) and Amanda Cygnaeus (Glowie) in Stockholm.
2. The War On Drugs – Accidentally Like A Martyr (Live)
The band drop their new album, LIVE DRUGS, later this month. It will be accompanied by ‘The Super High Quality Podcast’ series, which will air weekly over four weeks from the album’s release day. On the podcast, the band discuss about how they arrived at the performances and the decision to release a live album.
3. Lava La Rue – Angel ft. Deb Never
This new single features alt-emo star Deb Never, and is taken from the forthcoming EP Butterfly out January 29th 2021.
4. Hayley Mary – The Chain
Hayley Mary explains, “I wrote ‘The Chain’ the evening I was meant to fly out to begin touring my first EP. The pandemic was erupting and venues were closing and the flights and shows were cancelled. I sat in my apartment in Melbourne staring at my suitcase. Not quite ready to start unpacking and let go of the momentum of my little rock n roll dream, I picked up the guitar and wrote what felt like, at the time, the saddest song I’d ever written.”
5. Sports – Baby Baby
This single is about codependency, Cale from the band explains. ‘My emotions being dependent on someone else’s emotions. It’s about a vicious cycle of not being able to comfort someone who is crying, and their crying ending up making me more upset than they are.’
6. ENNY – Peng Black Girls (feat. Amia Brave)
Rapidly emerging from South East London, the rapper & singer has dropped her new single via Jorja Smith’s label FAMM.
7. Tilly Tjala Thomas – Ngana Nyunyi
During NAIDOC week, the emerging South Australian artist has released her new single, pronounced nah-nah yuun-yee.
8. Curly Blonde – Room 309
Brynn O’Connor and Fergus Selkirk-Bell make up this indie rock/pop duo out of Victoria. Check out their new single.
9. Greta Jaime – Act One
This is the fifth track to be lifted from the experimental pop producer’s EP of the same title.
10. Bleach Lab – Never Be
The South London quartet have dropped their new single. It’s mastered by the legendary Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur etc).
