Our top ten tunes of the week – January 15
These are the songs that have been on high rotation in our office over the past seven days. It’s our first top ten of the year!:
1. G Flip – Queen feat. mxmtoon
The drummer-turned-singer, songwriter, producer and multi-talented performer has dropped a new collaborative single with Oakland-raised, Brooklyn-based artist mxmtoon.
2. The Wedding Present ft. Louise Wener – We Should Be Together
Released 26th February 2021, Locked Down And Stripped Back includes twelve home recordings of Wedding Present favourites along with two previously unreleased songs, including We Should Be Together, which was originally recorded – but never released – by Britpop favourites Sleeper.
3. shame – Nigel Hitter
The SW London band’s highly anticipated second album has just dropped and it’s epic. Here’s the latest track from it.
4. Field Music – Orion From The Street
This song is a prelude to a new studio album from the beloved UK band that is slated for release later in 2021.
5. Middle Kids – Questions
The band have announced that their second album Today We’re The Greatest will be released on 19 March. They are also embarking on an east coast Australian tour throughout May.
6. Julien Baker – Hardline
Julien’s new album will be released on February 26 via Matador Records / Remote Control Records. The New York Times included the album in their ‘11 Things To Look Forward to In 2021’.
7. Sarah Mary Chadwick – Full Mood
The New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter has dropped a new single/video, which is taken from her new album, Me And Ennui Are Friends, Baby, out February 5th on Rice Is Nice Records & Ba Da Bing.
8. Cat & Calmell – dramatic
Of the release, the Sydney-based duo say: “We wrote this song as a way to express our frustration at the people in power and their complacency with the state of the world, it’s a cry of frustration from our generation to theirs and we hope it resonates and you think it’s a good jam!”.
9. SWIMM – You Never Fake It
The LA-based psych-pop group’s new single features Lauren Ruth Ward. Have a listen!
