Getting to know Max Degroot

Max Degroot is a singer-songwriter from the east coast of Australia. He’s just dropped his debut single and has another song coming out soon. We asked him to tell us about himself:

I am… 31 years young?…

‘Slow it Down’ is… my debut single, born out of a dumpster fire of a year, but the bones of which were rattling around my brain long before. Recorded with my producer Nick Franklin from Rolodex Sound over the course of a day and a half in Liechardt, NSW. As it came together, I felt the broken parts of myself heal a sense of pride I hadn’t felt in a long time. I hope this song reaches you as it reached me, and helps lift some of you out of what has been a rough year for all of us.

2020 for me was… a year that, in the best way, seemed to burn away a lot of my self-doubt and emblazon desire to see my dreams come to fruition. A time of stripping back and planting my feet again in the solidarity of that vision.

I’ve always thought… peanut butter and Vegemite go together better than peanut butter and jam.

It might surprise you to learn that… I have nearly died on numerous occasions. From nearly bleeding out in a public bathroom, or an arrow going through the soft palate at the top of my mouth and just missing my spine… I like that I’m still here.

In the future… I’ll be releasing a self-titled EP with all the songs I’ve been writing over the last 10+ years. Everything from heartache to moral standpoints and journeying story telling.

Following ‘Slow it Down’, Max is releasing new track ‘Call My Name’ on the 26th January. It’ll be available on all platforms. Pre-save it here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/maxdegroot/call-my-name
