Getting to know colourblind

Adelaide’s colourblind have kicked off 2021 with their new single ‘Changing Seasons’. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… colourblind! Finn (Vox & guitar) Bernie (Bass & vox) Jayden (Guitar), Ben (Drums)

We all… hail from the north-western suburbs of Adelaide – we started the band in Finn’s spare room in Semaphore. Adelaide’s music scene is also home to us, we have super strong connections to a lot of the bands that came up around the same time as us, at venues like the Crown and Anchor and the Exeter.

Changing Seasons is… our most recent single, and probably our favourite song we’ve released to date. The video was created in Jayden’s back shed by our good friend Nick Astanei with help of Mark Koi, Mariah Anzil and Michael Belletti. We had initially expected the video to be a long stint, recording in 1 evening however had not expected Finn to be shaving his head at 4am.

We’re launching… Changing Seasons at Lion Arts Factory in Adelaide on Saturday 20th. We’re really excited, we’ve got Raccoon City on the bill whose reunion show we were booked in to play back in March of last year, the first of many things to get cancelled and shifted around for us last year. Mum Friends and Coldwave are local friends of ours too who we’re very excited to play with. We’re playing in Melbourne in late March (Sat March 20th @ The Leadbeater) with Columbus, The Dead Love, Gangz, Squid Fishing and Tamara and the Dreams. We’re hoping to get to New South Wales in the next little while too. We got back to Brisbane a couple of weeks ago for Mountain Goat Valley Crawl which was great fun.

We spend too much time… looking at gear we can’t afford instead of writing our silly little songs.

2020 was… good and bad for us, as we’re sure was the same for a lot of artists. We started out strong, did a really special residency at the Exeter in January, which was great fun. We had a few shows cancelled and rescheduled once COVID happened but we were still able to release our single Seatbelt in May which was great to get out, albeit delayed.

It might surprise people to learn that… Changing Seasons was actually written 2 years ago and almost cut from the writing board. With time, fresh ears and a new bridge the song was resurrected and went from one of our least favourite to most favourite tracks.

Bernie studies geology, Ben works in insurance, Jayden is an electrical engineer and Finn is a barista.

Keep up to date with the band on Insta.
