Getting to know Blu DeTiger

Blu DeTiger’s excellent debut EP ‘How Did We Get Here?’ drops on Friday 5 March. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… in New York finishing up the final touches on my EP vinyl design.

How Did We Get Here? is… my debut project. It’s a question that sparks reflection. For me it’s reflecting on this time and my journey as an artist. Everyone can have their own answer. It’s dreamy and nostalgic, with some extra emphasis on the nostalgia of the very recent past.

Home is… New York City! Forever and always. I haven’t left since March of 2020. It’s the first time that I’ve spent an entire year straight in the city.

I spend too much time… on my phone. I guess everyone could say that though. How much is too much anyway?

I’ve never… seen any Star Wars movie.

The last 12 months have been… completely unexpected (and that’s an understatement). The once-in-a-lifetime global pandemic, political movements, Zooming constantly, TikTok — it’s crazy all the changes, recalibrations, moments of reflection, growth, and ups and downs. I’m really grateful for all the people resonating with my music and the opportunities that it has brought me this year.

It might surprise people to learn that… I used to stand in the corner of this club in New York City and play bass throughout the night to the songs that the DJ played across the room. The idea was that people would be enjoying their night out and come across a graceful bass player in the corner. Kinda like performance art. Or a “happening” as some might call it. Haha. I didn’t have any notice ahead of time of which songs to look out for, only that they would probably be disco related.
