Interview: Getting to know Godlands

Adelaide DJ Godlands is signed to Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak label, and has a new single out. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… struggling to find the words right now. Who am I? What am I? What am I doing on this earth? What am I meant to do? I guess I am having an existential crisis. Hmm, how about that.

Out My Face is… a bop! Go listen. Please.

Home is… wherever I’m with you. What a tune! I’d also say home is anyway that makes you feel like ‘you’, warm and safe. Also somewhere you can be completely gross without any judgement.

I spend too much time… PROCRASTINATING. I will literally do a million other things before putting my clean clothes away. Things that aren’t even necessary and way more work than actually putting my clothes away. Watching 6 hours with of tiktoks? Sure. Start a new 3D modelling hobby? Yep, that seems like a priority. Put away clothes that have been sitting there for 3 days that will make me feel a lot better about being in my bedroom?…. that….. can wait.

I’ve never… watched all of the Star Wars movies. I know, blasphemy! It’s not that it doesn’t interest me but I just don’t particularly care THAT much. Wait. I guess it doesn’t interest me. Actually let’s just say it’s not overly a priority to watch at this time but I do want to watch them…eventually.

The last 12 months have been… literal hell. But we are getting through it, one mental break down at a time. In all honesty it’s made me push my production to the next level which is definitely a positive and I think in a more broad sense it’s brought to light a lot of issues in the world that previously have been ignored which is another major positive. But yeah I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t been hard, but through adversity comes growth and I’m thankful for the opportunities such as this that has come out of working hard, even though some days I just wanted to not do anything. I still have days like that but I think last year was probably one of the hardest years in my life to date.

It might surprise people to learn that.. There’s a company that turns dead bodies into an ocean reef. I just Googled weird facts and found that and thought that was craaazzzzy. They use your cremated body and cement to create a “pearl” which loved ones can etch messages into. It’s then encased into a “reef ball”  then dropped into the ocean to create homes for fish and other sea life. Plus it’s all eco-friendly. Isn’t that amazing?? I want to be turned into an ocean reef.

Keep up to date with Godlands on Insta.
