Interview: Getting to know Wilder

California-based indie-rock duo Wilder recently released their debut single, Oh No. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… Stephen Ramos and Nick Sturz from Long Beach, CA. We’ve spent the past 10 years writing music together, touring, succeeding, failing, learning, and now… doing it all over again 🙃 Stephen is married with 2 kids, Nick is engaged with 3 fur babies.

Oh No is… the first song that we wrote as Wilder, and a song that hopefully sets the tone for what is to come from this band. It’s a song about getting what you want, but still feeling unsure of what is to come, nonetheless.

Home is… wherever our loved ones are! It could be Long Beach; it could be Alaska. As long as our people are with us, we are happy. Home is also loading into a new venue on tour, or in the van on a long drive through the desert, or a long day in the studio with friends. Our home on the road is something we’ve missed greatly since the pandemic happened.

I spend too much time… dying 80 times while fighting a boss in Dark Souls, binging Game Of Thrones on weeknights, and having actual conversations with my cat(s) – Nick

I’ve never… been to Europe *hint hint @ruderecords 😉 – Nick
I’ve never… broken a bone – Stephen

It might surprise people to learn that… I met James Hatfield (Metallica) at a car show in CA when I was like 10, he shook my hand and commanded me to “keep on rocking.” – Nick
It might surprise people to learn that… I accidentally stole Miley Cyrus’ cake from her birthday party – Stephen
