Getting to know Bellwether

Sydney-based pop-punk band Bellwether have recently released their debut single. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

I am… Heath Joukhadar and I am a proud weeb that plays guitar in Bellwether.

Shortsighted is… a song about self-acceptance – It’s about admitting your own flaws, accepting yourself for who you are and shrugging off all the expectations imposed onto you by others. The song is also, simultaneously, an absolute mess of pop culture and meme references – We didn’t want to take ourselves too seriously with the track and inject our own brand of humour into the song. We took a lot of inspiration from the titular character of the series BoJack Horseman, as he was a character we could all empathise with – he personifies the feeling of never being good enough and we tried channelling that energy into the song because sometimes you feel like a piece of shit, and that’s alright

Home is… where I can listen to the Shrek 2 soundtrack on repeat without being judged or ashamed.

I’ve never… watched the fourth Shrek film Shrek Forever After, despite my fervent passion for the first two films – I suppose after the disappointment that was Shrek the Third, I never wanted to be let down like that ever again.

I spend too much time… watching competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! content on YouTube. I love the game but often I’ll just end up spending more time watching videos about it than playing it.

It might surprise people to learn that… I was in a Disney Channel music video! I’m acquainted with Australian actress Naomi Sequeira, who use to do some work with the Disney Channel and hired me to be one of the band members in a video she released that aired on the Disney Channel (I once had someone message me saying they saw me while watching Hannah Montana).

Keep up to date with the band on Insta.
