Interview: Getting to Know Xirita

Melbourne-based electronic-pop artist Xirita has released her subversive new single, OWYH. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… Xirita, a Melbourne artist currently escaping Vic lockdown in NZ.

OWYH is…
an affirmation of strength. It’s the embodiment of me moving away from people-pleasing tendencies and not settling for less than I deserve. I’m learning – and trying to hold myself accountable – that to be in my life, you need to step up and show up. And if you aren’t able to do that as a bare minimum, then I’m out. Boundaries, standards, expectations are all part of establishing a healthy relationship. I’m a person with a very big heart, so my default is to give all straight away, but I’m learning the importance that someone earns this through respect, decency and showing up. ‘OWYH’ is my grandiose affirmation of that.

Home is… a refuge of love, laughter and soup! Home should feel safe, warm and cosy, and the people are what create that more than any heater can.

I spend too much time… overthinking!

I’ve never…  not wanted to create. I love making music, and all I ask of creativity is that I get to keep doing this for a long, long time.

It might surprise people to learn that…
I started as an acoustic folk singer before transitioning to RnB/Electro scene, but I think you can still hear that influence in my writing style.
