Interview: Dive Bell is a whole different beast

Sydney’s Dive Bell just released ‘Undercover’, their debut single. We had a chat with Aleesha Dibbs from the band:

Hey Aleesha! It’s been a while since we last spoke. How have you been?
Hey hey! Indeed, it’s been quite some time! Life has been fortuitous, ended up deep in sci/tech world for the last few years until recently with much musical exploration also weaved throughout.

Where are you at the moment?
On a bus, heading north.

So, you’ve started a new band! Can you bring us up to date with Dive Bell?
Initially born as a solo venture, Dive Bell grew from 3 epic humans (Ben J, Ben M and Ray) coming onboard the journey with me and it organically developing into a whole different beast.

Tell us about your new single, Undercover…
Undercover originated from an industrial, instrumental track Ray sent through to me to try vocal ideas on. I put the track on repeat on a bush walk and what subliminally came to mind was this Madonna inspired catharsis that I realised in retrospect explores notions of control, and lack thereof.

You’re launching the single in Sydney soon. What can we expect from the show?
Experimental pop-infused sonic maximalism.

What’s next for the band? More releases/shows? Are there plans for an EP/album?
We’ve got a video for Undercover on it’s way, some shows coming up at the Landsdowne, King Street Crawl and the MCA and a second single due out in October. EP is also in the works!

Tell us something we’d be surprised to learn about Dive Bell…
Our guitarist Ben has a deep love of the cassowary.

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us Aleesha! What are you going to do now that you’ve finished this interview?
Settling back into my Friday daydream 🙂

Dive Bell launch Undercover next Friday August 17th at Waywards in Sydney with Suiix and Goodside. Keep up to date with Dive Bell on Facebook.
