Getting to know Billy Fox

Sydney-based indie-electronic artist Billy Fox recently unveiled live dates and a new single. We asked him to tell us about himself:

I am Billy Fox, a writer and producer from Sydney, Australia. I produce my own version of indie soul/R’nB with a large focus on resampling live studio recordings to produce my songs in a way that they move and breathe. I have just released my first single for 2018, called ‘Echo’, and am about to play two intimate launch shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

Echo is essentially a love song. However, it pays particular attention to that moment of realisation in a relationship when you understand just how in love you both are. At the infant stages of the relationship, you would never had known where this was going to take you, and you don’t know what you’ve got yourselves into.
We need the courage to let go and let it happen.

My upcoming Sydney show will be at The Record Crate in Sydney on October 19th. It will include a photo exhibition of kissing portraits, where we took a series of photos of couples kissing to compliment the theme of ‘Echo’.

Home is in Manly, Sydney. I surf a lot so need to be near the ocean. I think I could pretty much live anywhere, as long as there’s waves. I grew up in another part of Sydney, so I know my city well, and I’ve got a lot of love for it!

I spend too much time binge watching Netflix and Stan series. (Better Call Saul rn). I spend a lot of time doing a lot of other things, but all these things need time. I am mindful of how I use my time and what I dedicate it to. I think our time is our most valuable resource and we should constantly be considering the most efficient and effective use of it. I feel I have a nice balance between everything right now.

It might surprise people to learn that in another part of my life, I am a primary school teacher. I job-share a class with another teacher, which provides a perfect balance between teaching, which I love, and music, which I also obviously love… even more so.

Keep up to date with Billy Fox on Facebook.
