Getting to know IV League

IV League have returned with a new single ‘Lose Me’. We asked Bella from the band to tell us more:

We are… 23/24 year olds living the dream in Melbourne’s Inner North one $6.50 cold brew at a time. We’ve been working at our music pretty tirelessly over the past year and are extremely excited to share what we feel is our most refined work yet.

Lose Me is… a song about feeling like you’ve lost control of your life, emotions and are struggling to hang on to what you once considered to be your defining traits and qualities. It’s the first step in a new direction for the band, for which we were adamant on bringing my vocals to the forefront of the track as opposed to buried beneath layers of reverb and effect as it has been in the past. I think a strong, clean vocal was really important in showcasing the lyrics, which are the most candid and vulnerable that I’ve written for an IV League song to date.

Our upcoming debut EP will be… a perfect reflection of who we are as people in this current moment. It’s a collection of dreams, fears, anger and fantasy and feels like the culmination of our experiences over the past few years pouring our heart and soul into pursuing music, which has shaped our lives in so many different ways. Sonically we’ve taken several steps in new directions whilst maintaining the authenticity of our live sound, and what we were listening to during the recording process definitely left its mark on the record. The punkier cuts, for example, were influenced by the Shame and Eddy Current Supression Ring albums we were spinning on repeat (which probably sounds like a crazy comparison!) at the time, and the slower more dreamy tracks pay homage to the shoegaze and dream pop bands we’ve loved throughout our youth.

We spend too much time… treating ourselves to delicious vegan food, going to see arthouse films and arguing about who is a better dancer. Recently we went to see the remake of Suspiria and that outing facilitated both of the latter.

It might surprise people to learn that… we’re definitely more into self care than going on benders and the reckless partying that you might expect from two idiots in their early 20s trying to make a name for themselves in indie music. B12 supplements and morning yoga over straight liquor any day.

We’ve never… made it through a band practice at our drummer Winnie’s house without stopping to pat his dog Juno.

In the future… we’d love to play a show overseas! That’s one of our long-term goals and wildest dreams. We also hope to explore new territory within our song-writing and grow as artists and humans with every release.
