Getting to Know Kim Churchill

Australian singer-songwriter Kim Churchill has released his new single. We asked him to tell us about himself:

I am… an Australian singer-songwriter who comes from Merimbula on the Far South Coast, attempting to exist in a way that is not damaging to anything or anyone (as possible as that actually is in a 1st world country). Trying to have fun along the way. I’m releasing a 4-EP collection over the next two years with each one being recorded and written in a different part of the world.

After The Sun is… a song written and recorded in Berlin about the movement of the sun and the pointlessness of chasing it. It’s my first successful attempt working with a German house producer, it’s an absolute pleasure to play live. The track was initially inspired by a graffiti mural on the Berlin Wall.

Home is… a transient concept that is different for every person on the planet. For me, it’s a lovely terraced house in Newcastle, Australia, the back of a white Toyota Commuter that is, still, always a bit messy and a feeling that still comes and goes for me year to year.

I spend too much time… worrying about things that are out of my control, trying to play Coldplay songs from the late 90’s, on my bloody phone, worrying about the amount of time on my bloody phone and wondering why I didn’t like mushrooms until this year because they’re so amazing!

I’ve never… travelled in India, come of out a backhand barrel surfing, played my dream venue or seen Back to the Future…

It might surprise people to learn that… I love painting water colours but am useless at it. I once ate pho for 23 days in a row. I am actually a bit of a smart arse and have a problem with authority. I worship Led Zeppelin and once had dinner with John Paul Jones (quite possibly the best moment of my life).

After The Sun is out now. Keep up to date with Kim on Facebook.
