Music interview: Getting to know Aiko

Aiko recently released her new single. Vulnerable. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… Aiko, an indie singer/songwriter, born in Russia but grew up in the Czech Republic. I pretty much look the same since I was 15 – I have blue ombre hair and I’m still not sure what is the right age to stop doing it? Is there any? I’m also quite an old soul, that’s why many of my songs are about solitude, spending time with yourself and seeing me at a party is pretty rare.

Vulnerable is… a song about being vulnerable, really. Trusting the other person fully, letting him into your world of emotions, thoughts… On the other hand, it’s about having an image of the other person in your head, seeing them the way you want them to be, which oftentimes isn’t really the way they are. Sound-wise, it’s very minimalistic, exactly the way I imagined it.

Home is… Anywhere, where’s breakfast and a guitar.

I spend too much time…wondering why am I sleep deprived instead of sleeping, watching frenchie videos and writing e-mails on a Friday night.

It might surprise people to learn that… I speak 4 languages and do pole dancing.

In the future… I’m still going to make music, share it with people, play shows and be happy doing so. I plan on moving to London in September, to get further with my music (and it’s a dream come true of mine, big cities just fascinate me so much!! I love the buzz and the endless energy)

Keep up to date with Aiko on Instagram.
