Interview: Getting to know MONATOMIC

After releasing a pair of singles in 2018, Sydney-based indie-pop duo MONATOMIC have just released their first track of the year. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… MONATOMIC, an indie-electro pop duo from the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

‘They’re Playing My Song’ is… our new single, dedicated to everyone’s inner rockstar. During our whirlwind trip to LA we ran into some incredible people who embody that perfect combination of confidence, work ethic and vision that has gotten them to the top of their game. We’ll always remember that moment meeting the legendary Dave Pensado and seeing that Grammy on his desk, and getting our own masterclass rundown of how the industry works. It was full-on inspiring. The other side that you can’t help but notice in the States is just how many people are in a desperate struggle for success and are running only on their own self-belief. We wanted to make a song that embodies a mix of healthy self confidence with just that bit of humour that stops you from taking yourself too seriously, because in the end “you can’t catch fate”.

Home is… wherever there is a beach (Long Reef Beach is probably our favourite) and a tall glass of Organic lemon-lime Kombucha.

We spend too much time… watching Korean television shows. Our favourite currently being the Korean version of The Good Doctor, 굿닥터.

We’ve never… been apart for more than a few days since we were in high school. It almost feels like we are a married couple.

It might surprise people to learn that… We go up to the Blue Mountains to collect spring water from deep within the bush, ideally on a full moon.

Keep up to date with the band on Facebook.
