Studio A challenges expectations

Heads-up, there is a heartwarming new web series coming to ABC iView this weekend that you really need to have a look at. In Studio A, six neurodiverse artists tackle important creative and professional milestones. Using their language of choice – paint, pencil, performance and textile – they communicate their experience of the world while simultaneously overcoming traditional expectations of people with intellectual disabilities.

In this 6 x 8-minute series, we meet six of these artists – Greg Sindel, Emily Crockford, Daniel Kim, Meagan Pelham, Lisa Scott and Thom Roberts. Each episode follows the ups and downs of a unique career achievement – from painting a 39m mural in a bank to live drawing musicians backstage at Spilt Milk music festival. We are offered an intimate reflection on key challenges that affect any artists life, including self-determination, economic independence, romance, imagination, reputation and belonging.

The series is directed and produced by the mega-talented Georgia Quinn, features appearances from Skeggs and Kwame and music from Sydney electronic trio, GAUC.

You can catch the series from June 22nd, so mark it in your diary and give it a watch. Here’s the trailer, to whet your appetite…
