Interview: Getting to know Samia

Rising singer-songwriter Samia has just dropped her Australian-exclusive, debut EP, Ode To Artifice. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… getting less allergic to cats and less afraid of bugs. 22. Writing my record at my parents’ piano. Deciding whether to go to K Mart before or after band practice. Proud of myself for running this morning even though it was only for 15 minutes.

Ode To Artifice is… a call to dance your outside self into your inside self. It’s a love song to my party persona by the part of me who obsessively twirls my hair and just walked ten blocks in the wrong direction.

Home is… my aunts’ house in San Diego. Mona and Shannon. They’ve moved houses and have a new dog and somehow being there always grounds me the same way. Something about being around them and probably all the Lebanese food.

I’ve never… really broken a bone.

I spend too much time… wondering whether people will understand what I’m trying to say.

It might surprise people to learn that… I was really into breakdancing growing up. Look up Lost Girls Crew on Youtube.

In the future… I’d like to have hundreds of dogs and live on a ranch in central Oregon.

Keep up to date with Samia on Facebook.
