Our top ten tunes of the week – August 21

These are the ten songs that have been on heavy rotation in our office over the past seven days:

1. Alex the Astronaut – I Like To Dance

Ahead of her recent headline shows in Glasgow and London, Alex dropped this heartbreaking new single. Content warning for domestic violence.

2. The Growlers – Natural Affair

The new single, self-produced by Brooks Nielsen and Matt Taylor, continues the band’s exploration of the seedier side of new wave funk.

3. Cassels – The Woman In The Moon

The song is the latest to be taken from the London duo’s ambitious second album, The Perfect Ending, released on 6th September.

4. Green Buzzard – I Don’t Want To Be Alone 

Sydney’s Paddy Harrowsmith and his band will return to home soil for his first headline shows since 2017 to play Yah Yah’s in Melbourne on Friday 20 September and The Chippo Hotel in Sydney on Saturday 21 September.

5. Asha Jefferies – Bad Kisser

This song follows on from Asha’s debut EP ‘Hold Yourself Together’ which dropped back in February.

6. Donny Benét – Second Dinner

Donny has also recently announced an Australian national tour for October where he will be playing his biggest rooms to date.

7. Dune Rats – Rubber Arm

In support of the new single the band have announced their first headline Australian shows for the year, playing in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

8. GAZEY – Sleep

The video sees band member Ezekiel, riddled with anxiety, chased through a concert hall by a crazed fan.

9. Lauren Faith – Jheeze (Cosmic Love)

Lauren’s debut EP Cosmic is out now, featuring the Kaytranada-produced Jheeze (Cosmic Love).

10. Crystal Cities – I Hear a Cold Wind Calling

This is the second single to be taken from the band’s album, “I Hear a Cold Wind Calling.”
