Our top ten tunes of the week – May 1

These are the ten songs that have been keeping us entertained over the past seven days:

1. Kate Tempest: People’s Faces (The Tonight Show: At Home Edition)

Performing remotely in quarantine from her home in London, Tempest was accompanied by her collaborator Dan Carey on the piano. This song is taken from Tempest’s critically-acclaimed 2019 album, The Book Of Traps & Lessons, and soundtracks Facebook’s new film “Never Lost,” which supports Community Help, a destination for people to help their neighbors most impacted by COVID-19.

2. Aime Simone – In This Dark Time

Aime is a Parisian singer and producer, now based in Berlin. During Aime’s time in Paris, he became very close friends with Pete Doherty, who has also been a mentor in his artistic development.

3. PLGRMS – Disappear

This new single is what the duo describe as a ‘note to self’. “You want to take the first step, dive towards something new, but it’s so easy being resistant to change. Sometimes almost drowning is what it takes for us to learn how to swim.”

4. Henry Jamison · Green Room (feat. Ed Droste)

This new single features Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste, and is taken from Henry’s forthcoming collaborative EP, ’Tourism’.

5. E^ST – MAYBE IT’S ME

2020 is set to be a huge year for E^ST, with her debut album ‘I’m Doing It’ arriving at the end of July.

6. Julia Lostrom – Walls

“When the time is right, I hope this video will inspire people to go out and explore further regions of Victoria to help elevate their communities, especially after the devastating fires that have just passed,” Julia says.

7. Hayden James & Icona Pop – Right Time

The quarantine-themed video sees the Swedes take the party to their own home.

8. Donny Benét – Mr Experience

Donny’s forthcoming new album, Mr Experience, is set for release on Friday 22 May.

9. TOWNS – Stardust

Drummer Daniel Steinert explains the idea to release a DIY video came from being unable to film their original idea due to the current isolation regulations. Have a look…

10. REINIER, Calypso – Momma

The Melbourne-based songwriters recently met and connected over a mutual artistic direction. The bones of the single were composed by Calypso, while REINIER took charge of production.
