Getting to know Annie Bass

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Annie Bass has recently released a new single. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… starting to accept that 2020 isn’t going to look anything like how I imagined. I’m slowly stripping away the expectations I had at the beginning of the year, and learning how to slow down and start making some lemonade out of these lemons.

Hold On is… a song that I’ll never forget making. I wrote it during such a tempestuous time, I didn’t know how to keep making music and if it weren’t for [collaborator and friend] Christopher Port it most likely would have remained a demo forever. It’s a song about finding the deepest darkest part of yourself, and finding comfort there.

Home is… where the heart is, literally. After spending last year in Melbourne, I was supposed to be moving back to Sydney in April 2020. But thanks to this global pandemic, I’m living in Adelaide with my (amazing) parents for the first time in 7 years. Despite living out of a suitcase since January, I’m so grateful to be around my family during such an insane time. As much as I am dying to get back to Sydney, Adelaide is such a beautiful place and I’m actually having a really lovely time.

I spend too much time… worrying about things I can’t control. I’ve never been a very chill person, so this year especially I’m trying to shut down the self-doubt and trust that I’m exactly where I am supposed to be. Oh, and scrolling.

I’ve never… been to India. When we can ever travel again I’d love to spend a month (or 6) in India practicing yoga. I am actually a qualified Yoga teacher, but there is so so so much more to learn, I feel like India would be the most immersive place to do it.

It might surprise people to learn that… I was an intern for Rob Zombie’s management company in LA. Before I ever put music out I was working in the music industry and while I’ve taken a little break from it now, I am pretty obsessed with the music industry both as a performer and behind the scenes.

In the future… I want to live by the ocean, have a big yard for my dog, make music, do yoga, and grow vegetables.

Keep up to date with Annie on Insta.
