Getting to know Sunflower

Brisbane-based indie-pop group Sunflower have recently released a new single. We asked lead vocalist Kahlia to tell us more:

We are… Sunflower. A five-piece soul rock band from Australia.

Thin Skin is… our brand spankin’ new single. It’s a song about accepting that life is going to rough sometimes, and you’ve got to learn to let go of anything that doesn’t add value to your life. You can be your own worst enemy if you let the difficulties of life tear away at you. We only get one life, might as well learn to love it.

Home iswherever my guitar is. Life has dealt me some strange cards over the last 12 months, and my bandmates and I have been floating from house to house a lot lately. I haven’t felt particularly grounded in a long term. But as long as my acoustic guitar is sitting in the corner, ready to be played, I feel at home.

I spend too much timewatching Rupaul’s Drag Race! UGH the obsession is real. I love everything about Rupaul and I love everything about that goddam addictive show. It’s just really inspiring and heart-warming, I’ve heard a lot of people say the same thing. Definitely recommend it. Every episode ends with Rupaul saying “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?” What a GODDESS.

I’ve neversmoked a cigarette. Not once. I can’t even begin to express how little interest I have in it. No judgement to anyone who smokes, you do you. I’ll try anything once, but for me, the thought of breathing smoke into my lungs is the most unappealing thing on the planet. I like my clean lungs. They’re better that way.

It might surprise people to learn thatI struggled with an eating disorder for a number of years. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. It was absolute hell, but I came out the other side so much stronger and happier.

Keep up to date with the band on Insta.
