Our top ten tunes of the week – February 10
These are the songs that have been lighting our fireworks over the past seven days:
1. Tkay Maidza with Yung Baby Tate – KIM
Of the new single and clip, Tkay Maidza says, “The idea for the song came from Kim Possible, an iconic figure in my childhood – she always came out on top. I thought why not make a song to remind those who question me that I will always figure it out like Kim. From there when we starting planning a video we thought why not recreate iconic moments from other iconic Kims, across generations.”
2. Sarah Blasko – Sounds Of Then (This Is Australia)
The Australian artist has covered the iconic track, penned by GANGgajang’s lead singer and guitarist Mark Callaghan and released in 1985.
3. Asha Jefferies – Break
The Brisbane-raised indie-folk artist’s new single was produced by Ian Haug, guitarist and songwriter for both Powderfinger and The Church.
4. Cian Ducrot – Not Usually Like This
The 19-year-old from Ireland is the newest signing to Darkroom Records (Billie Ellish, Max Leone, Oliver Malcolm). Have a listen.
5. PRICIE – too dang good
Check out the the debut single from the Melbourne based singer/songwriter, and the video directed by Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore (‘Her Sound, Her Story’, Thelma Plum, Holy Holy).
6. Ebony Buckle – Wonder
The track is inspired by the world’s loneliest whale. Arising from a story about a whale which was discovered in the 80s, who would sing at a frequency of 52hz (higher than any species known to humans). It was believed that this whale would not be heard by any of the other whales in the ocean.
7. Marie Naffah – Wasteland
It is the latest track to be taken from the artist’s forthcoming EP out later this year, which also includes the previously released singles ‘The Cage’ and ‘California’.
8. Boy Destroy – You Don’t Want Me When I’m Sober
The latest taste from the Swedish artist’s upcoming debut EP comes with a video which was shot on 16mm film in and around a semi-abandoned mansion on the small island, Storholmen.
9. Monokino – Bend Or Break
Based on a series of online conversations Monokino had last year, the single tells the story of someone who becomes consumed by the never-ending torrent of news and misinformation, and ultimately has their outlook on life warped in the process.
10. Hiatus – Your Place Is Empty (feat. Malahat)
The British-Iranian (real name Cyrus Shahrad) artist’s new single is taken from his upcoming album ‘Distancer’, which lands on the 9th April via Lucky Thunder.
