Interview: Getting to know DL

Melbourne-based rapper DL has returned with his latest single. We asked him to tell us about himself:

I am… DL. Friends call me Deano. I’m a proud hip-pop artist from Melbourne, with an Anglo-Indian background. I hate long walks on the beach. I’m more of a footy and whiskey kind of guy.

LOVE is… my proudest release to date. Friends and followers will hear my growth and confidence come through on this, and that’s because I’ve been inspired by a woman, and now two beautiful daughters. LOVE from all angles. It features a rare industry nice-guy, Nathaniel. He’s all class, and I’m proud that this is the song we’re first releasing together.

Home is… comfort. Being with my family and friends. It’s where I want to be when things get crazy. But sometimes crazy is good too!

I spend too much time… on the AFL supercoach app. If I applied myself to all facets of life like I do with fantasy footy. Who knows?!

I’ve never… performed overseas. I would love a release to open up that opportunity. It’s just one of those things I’ll forever be working for.

It might surprise people to learn that… I have a 9-to-5 as my main profession and source of income as a design manager for a custom home builder. I absolutely love it. I get to have another avenue for my creativity. The process of designing from scratch is a lot like building a song. Having a 9-to-5 I love takes the pressure off finding more success in what’s probably one of the toughest industries (music), especially in this country. I love that I can do both things that I love and have stability at the same time.
