Interview: Getting to know FANGZ

Sydney-based punk quartet FANGZ have just released their new single. We asked Josh from the band to tell us more:

I am… Joshua Robert Lewis Cottreau. I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. I moved to Toronto Ontario when I was 18 to pursue a dream in music and then somehow, I ended up in Australia.

‘Prove Me Wrong’ is… FANGZ’s new single that I’m super excited for everyone to hear. It’s an insight into the way corporate media portrays the world events. It was written just after the passing of George Floyd after hearing friends say “the system is broken” instead of realising the system is working exactly as it was designed to. We live in a world where essentially one man controls 90% of our media and it’s really hard to get an unbiased take that is agenda free.

Home is… where my dogs live.

I spend too much time… watching and playing ice hockey. Some would even say I’m a bit obsessed with it.

I’ve never… played in Orange – hell I don’t even think I’ve been there, but it has been an ongoing conversation within our band, and they know that my dream is to play a sold out show there. So, someone please help make it happen.

It might surprise people to learn that… when I was kid, I was determined to get this girl I really liked to talk to me. I was too scared to make the first move, so I auditioned for a role in the Copacabana musical and got the part! She wasn’t interested but we became friends later.
