Our top ten tunes of the week – September 14

These are the songs that have been on constant rotation in our HQ over the past week or so:

1. Billie Marten – Liquid Love

This new single is taken from the UK artist’s critically-acclaimed third album, Flora Fauna, and lands ahead of her upcoming UK tour, which includes a date at London’s EartH on 30th September. Check our interview here.

2. Jack River – We Are The Youth

The track draws from Jack River’s (real name Holly Rankin) passion for climate and environmental movements. It wasn’t until late 2019, performing at the School Strike 4 Climate rally on Gadigal land (Sydney), that inspiration struck. “I played to 80,000 young people, and I realised that I didn’t have an anthem for them, and myself – to express how we felt about the times,” she said.

3. Holly Humberstone – Scarlett

Holly says: “This track is my absolute favourite. It’s a ‘fuck you’ to the guy that was going out with my closest friend Scarlett and it was written as they were breaking up.”

4. Isabel Wood – Allergy Season

Check out the new one from the rising Queensland pop artist, which arrives in time for the artist’s appearance at Caloundra Music Festival on October 1st .

5. Matilda Pearl – What Can I Do?

Matilda has described her own music as “mermaid meets disco”. Check out her new single.

6. Montgomery – Close to Being Apart

This is the first taste of the Melbourne artist’s forthcoming EP, due out later this year.

7. Thomas Headon – Nobody Has To Know

This new track follows the producer-singer-songwriter’s recent collab with G Flip, as well as two previous EPs, The Greatest Hits and The Goodbye EP.

8. romæofall

The Eora-based singer, songwriter and producer wrote this song during her residency at the Powerhouse Museum. It is a musing on how beauty has been equated with morality throughout history and art.

9. Wyndow – All Cameras Gone

Ahead of the release of their eponymous debut album, Laura J Martin and Lavinia Blackwall have returned with a new single.

10. The Shang – All For Show

The Sydney four-piece’s new single details the story of a relationship in the midst of a communication breakdown and was born out of a writing session for the triple j unearthed DIY supergroup competition.
