Interview: Getting to know LORA

Rising 22-year-old Sydney indie-pop artist LORA has today dropped her new single, Drive. We asked her to tell us about herself:

I am… currently sitting at work about to finish my shift, it’s a quiet one today. I’ve got my playlist pumping through the room with Many Times by Dijon currently playing. When it’s quiet I’m lucky enough my boss lets me work on my music, so here I am emailing away and sorting all the prep for my new release!

Drive is… about fearing the vulnerability it takes to let someone in.

This song was inspired by my relationship with my now girlfriend and how it took me so long to acknowledge how strongly I felt for her because I was afraid of letting her in, in case she got too close and realised she didn’t like what she would see. It’s about feeling so much for someone and letting them take the wheel even if you might end up with a broken heart.

I wrote this song in London with my producer and close friend Joe Mason in May of 2022. This was a song that came together so quickly and immediately became one of my favourites.

My upcoming new EP will be… vulnerable in a new way for me. This EP focuses on the topic of finding home. Whether that be a place, with someone new, or within yourself. I’ve use the repetition of physical objects you would find within a home to metaphorically conveys insecurities I have about myself. Throughout the EP the journey ends when I eventually begin to learn to find comfort with what I call ‘home’.

Home is… me. If I can be at home with myself I can be at home anywhere.

I spend too much time… overthinking and driving. I drive everywhere because the public transport where I currently live is woeful. When I drive is when I think, sometimes its a good thing and sometimes its a bad bad thing! 🙂

I’ve never… been so excited to release a song!!! I’m obsessed with this track which is a really really nice feeling.

The last couple of years have been… interesting to say the least. It was such a weird time with Covid, it felt like everything stopped, but that’s truly when everything started for me. I feel very fortunate to be where I am now.

Keep up to date with LORA on Insta.
