Pyrmont Festival returns to Sydney this May

Sydneysiders, have you’ve ever been stuck with that ever growing dilemma of what should you do with mates on the weekend, and you’re all sick of those late night maccas runs and you’re wanting to do something a little fancy because you know you gotta treat yourselves in these trying times? Or, suppose you’re on a potential date with someone but you’re unsure if you’re vibin’ with them so you’re already concocting plans A through to Z to try and impress them but the thought of sitting in a dark, dingy restaurant with them fills you with existential dread?

Well…I have the solution for you!

This May, if you’re looking for something fun and festive to do look no further than the Pyrmont Festival happening the weekend of May 6th – 7th, 11am – 5pm. It’s a FREE event held at Pirrama Park in Pyrmont that’s family friendly sure to bring many.

In its 11th year, this community backed-event might just be the thing that brings you back to the city. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Sydney Harbour at Pyrmont this family friendly event is sure to draw crowds quicker than you can say Sydney Seagulls sure are salivating on my Seafood Sandwiches. If you want to soak in the atmosphere of Sydney’s harbour views, chat with a few country vendors, go people watching or even better dog watching, taste a few drops of your preferred beverage, there’s vast selection of Wine, Beer, Gin, and Whisky to choose from.

Pyrmont Festival Director Alex Gibbs says, “Get ready to sip and savor as Pyrmont Festival 2023 showcases an unprecedented 15 wineries and Wine Selectors, including the renowned Peterson House. The Festival will put wineries from Mudgee, the Hunter Valley and Orange in the spotlight, highlighting the best of NSW’s unrivaled wine-making culture. Beer lovers and gin lovers will also be in for a treat, as the festival features the best local Sydney breweries with Willie the Boatman, The Grifter Brewing Co and Yulli’s Brews bringing their Froth Whitlams and Oprah Tinfreys along for the ride. As well as Byron Bay based distiller Brookie’s Byron Gin joining the selection,”

There’s also Art classes where you can learn painting, and for the kidlets, or the kids at heart, there’s kids zone containing a jumping castle, face painting, and large format games like Giant Jenga and Connect Four, that’s sure to be a hit. If you’re a parent looking for a break from all these activities on the day there’s a parents chill zone where you can grab a glass, some food and watch the kids play.

Soak up the community vibes, go people watching and find yourself looking at cute pooches in little outfits as this event is not only family friendly but pooch friendly. It’s a great location, there’s some good food, and fun activities for all ages. It’s a no brainer, so you can grab a bit of grub and start chewing on some tasty morsels of culinary delights. The event also has some awesome live music acts lined up for you to enjoy so there won’t be any awkward silences or uncomfortable conversation just some great tasting meals and community feels.

And for those who love a good shucking, there’s some oysters, freshly shucked of course, from the Cheeky Naked Oyster Bar, if you’re looking for an activity to impress someone special or you’re just feeling a little fishy. (Apologies in advance for this joke). Speaking of fish, Sydney Fish Market is coming to the party, providing fresh prawns for purchase, and if that isn’t a-peeling enough for you to attend there’s a Japaneses Aburi Bar where you can pop a few mouth-watering blow-torched cheesy scallops in your gullet, which probably taste better than these silly jokes I’ve made so far.

So get your palates ready, don your best weekend wear and soak in the May sun. You’ll meet some vendors, passionate artisans of food and wine, artists too and there’s always interesting characters to converse with at events like this. Or if you’re like me, just go for the food.
