Getting to know Dial Denial
Eora/Sydney based pop/punk band Dial Denial have shared their new single, Paperwings. We asked them to tell us about themselves:
We are… Dial Denial, a 4-piece pop-punk band based in Eora/Sydney featuring Fergus, Owen, Bailey and Justin.
‘Paperwings’ is… an amalgam of everything I fear as I start to become an adult. I had the first ideas for the lyrics of the song as a long-term relationship was starting to hit a wall. I kept getting into fights with her over stupid things I was doing, except as time went on, she was just asking me to stop being myself. I wrote the first ideas for the song while in a plane hitting major turbulence, when everything just came crashing down. The fear of moving from home, changing myself for another person, loss of self-worth, the (totally rational) thought of the plane going down, I was just angry at everything. To distract myself, I pulled out my notebook and started writing “Sold my lungs for a heart of gold”.
Home is… Eora/Sydney Australia, 3 of us from the Northern Beaches and 1 from the Northern Suburbs of Sydney.
Bands we listen too are… Neck Deep, as well as the likes of Stand Atlantic, Hot Milk and Yours Truly.
We’ve never… played as a band outside of NSW or VIC and we’d love to one day!
It might surprise people to learn that… we started Dial Denial in 2018 aged 12 – 14 and our band features two brothers (Owen and Justin).
