Interview: Getting to know TUSHAR
Tarndanya/Adelaide-based indie-pop artist TUSHAR has shared his new single, Bloodshot Eyes. We asked him to tell us about himself:
I am… a South Asian/Australian artist currently based in Kaurna Land, South Australia. My genre of music tends to resonate around the surf-indie/pop culture. I love writing tracks that make me want to groove!
‘Bloodshot Eyes’ is… my latest single that my producer (Benny Tamblyn) and I wrote within six hours of a writing session. The track is based on meeting someone at a party that is constantly making people feel uncomfortable, has a hyper masculine mentality and is happy to start fights with anyone ‘deemed worthy’ of it.
Home is… currently in Adelaide, SA (Kaurna Land). However, I have caught the itch to travel more and would like to base myself in the UK with a visa in the distant future. I would love to have a good musical base over there so I can further my career as a solo artist.
I spend too much time… watching cooking videos to the point that I’ve run out of time to cook anything. This is a problem I would love to not have anymore haha. Maybe I’ll cut myself off after the third video.
I’ve never… travelled to the UK/EU before, but I would love to live there at some point. Hopefully my music will assist me to create some opportunities to do so. My partner and I travelled around Central America this year and we met so many European travellers that we’d love to visit again at some point! That would be such a dream!
It might surprise people to learn that… I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis when I was 16. It has affected my knees, lower back, shoulder, and my eyes. When I’m physically or mentally stressed, my eyes become bloodshot red, (this has nothing to do with the new single), and I’m unable to see any bright screens or walk out into the sunlight. It’s a condition that I haven’t really talked about until now, and as a touring musician, sometimes it gets hard. I’m a stubborn man though and I’ll do anything I can to continue playing music! I love it too much to give it up.
