Getting to Know Slow Cinema

Mulubinba/Newcastle-based indie-rock band Slow Cinema have dropped their new single, Pocket Knife. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… are an alternative indie-rock band from Awabakal land/Newcastle who love to put on a live show with unbridled enthusiasm and raw emotion.

‘Pocket Knife’ is… a three-minute, ten-second anti-love song masquerading as an infectious, upbeat, indie dance anthem.

Home is… being on stage. We all love performing, and it is where we have the most fun and feel the most comfortable. There’s no better feeling than seeing people dancing and enjoying songs you’ve spent so much time working on.

We spend too much time… arguing over who is marginally louder than other members at band practice, passing backing vocal mics to fans with questionable singing voices, and trying to shoehorn synth parts into songs that don’t need them.

We’ve never… accidentally unplugged one another’s instruments on stage. What started as an accident has now become a fun task to watch a member have a slight breakdown for a second.

It might surprise people to learn that… each member likes a different style of music/band, but it surprisingly works, making a unique Frankenstein sound.
