Getting to know Mannequin Death Squad

Naarm/Melbourne-based rock/punk duo Mannequin Death Squad have unveiled their latest single, Everybody’s Movin. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… Elly and Dan from Mannequin Death Squad. We are a two-piece instrument-swapping robot from outer space (Melbourne, Australia). We love playing grungy rock songs with punk energy and catchy vocals. You can usually find us hanging from the ceiling in a venue near you.

‘Everybody’s Movin’ is… a really fun song to play live. We road-tested it around Europe and India last year, and it went down really well. It is super cathartic to sing and play drums to and a fun way to let any bad energy out of the system. Hopefully, it does the same for you!

Home is… where the burgers are. Or by the coast with good friends and having nothing to do for a while. Swimming, jamming out and eating pizza, haha. Home is where the food is. It always comes back to food for us; how embarrassing.

We spend too much time… taping our guitar strap to our guitar so it doesn’t fall off. Because we swap instruments halfway through our set, Dan always manages to nearly rip the guitar in half by swinging it around or jumping off the walls. So, I’m left with a roll of gaff (that usually gets stolen) and a guitar strap hanging on by a thread.

We’ve never… toured the US and would absolutely love to. Mainly to hit up as many food spots as possible because it looks insane over there and to see if we can still move by the end of the tour, haha.

It might surprise people to learn that… Elly is of Macedonian descent but was born in Australia. However, she was whisked away to America and lived in L. A for four years in her pre-teen years. She was sent back home to Australia and now has a slight American twang to her accent that she can’t get rid of haha. She also speaks fluent Macedonian, which feels like a secret language sometimes.
