Interview: Getting to know MOBS

Melbourne-based indie-pop band MOBS are releasing their debut album, Cinema Paradiso, today. We asked them to tell us about themselves:

We are… MOBS. An indie pop quartet from Melbourne, Australia.

Cinema Paradiso’ is… our debut album, which is based on a slew of 80’s era cinema and musical influences. With each song written from the perspective of the lead character in each 80’s movie, from ‘Honey I Shrunk The Kids’ to ‘The Terminator’, it’s a smorgasbord of nostalgic pop we’re incredibly proud of!

Home is … wherever we can get a great brew of coffee.

We spend too much time… looking for a great brew of coffee, taking photos of dogs/cats, and in JC’s case – tweeting about the NBA.

We’ve never… had a band practice without a ping pong tournament.

It might surprise people to learn that… Matt, our drummer, is a national judo champion but can still be beaten up by Mike.

It might surprise people to learn that… I don’t really know much about hip-hop and the hip-hop world in general (or at least as much as I think I should). Poetry and rap have always been something I’ve loved but mainly because of The Red Hot Chili Peppers & Rage Against the Machine.

Keep up to date with the band on Facebook.
